Scott James White, age 67, of Harwinton, crashed his Honda Pilot just after 6:30 p.m. on Hill Road (Route 222), Connecticut State Police said.

Evidence showed that White first hit a wooden post and guide wires which caused the vehicle to ping-pong into a sign and then a farm stand before it crashed into a tree and burst into flames, State Police said.

Authorities pronounced White dead at the scene.

Police closed a section of Hill Road for hours after the crash as they cleaned, cleared, and investigated the scene.

Connecticut State Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Authorities ask anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information on it to contact Trooper Gregory Kenney at Gregory.Kenney@CT.GOV or 860-626-7900 ext. 5202.
